Is Amazon discontinuing “Pay-on-Behalf” in France?

For many retailers and producers that have previously managed their EPR obligations in France through Amazon, there may now be an urgent need to take action. According to current market reports, Amazon appears to be discontinuing its “Pay-on-Behalf” service in France. Affected companies should therefore review their existing solutions and arrange their own packaging registrations at an early stage.

Reports from various industry sources indicate that Amazon will no longer manage EPR payments on behalf of sellers in France. Although similar announcements have been discussed several times in the past, market participants now expect the change to take effect. One possible reason for this development is the significant variation in packaging registration requirements across individual EU Member States, which Amazon itself has highlighted in a study. These differences make it increasingly complex to manage packaging compliance across Europe. In the future, retailers may therefore need to take greater responsibility for managing their own registrations.

The impact of this change is already becoming visible: France is currently experiencing a significant increase in new packaging registrations, creating a growing demand for expert guidance and support.

Realigning EPR Compliance in the context of the PPWR

As companies are already preparing for the upcoming requirements of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), now is an important time to review and strategically realign existing compliance processes. This provides an opportunity to reassess current registrations and establish a future-proof approach with professional support. The French market presents additional challenges, particularly in areas such as commercial packaging, where companies may face further obligations. Companies that have previously managed their French EPR obligations through Amazon can now transition easily to take-e-way. As a partner in the Amazon Seller Central Network, take-e-way has extensive experience supporting Amazon sellers with their compliance requirements. The company assists businesses throughout the transition process and guides them through the entire registration procedure.

Demand is particularly high for personal consultations, tailored answers to individual questions, and support with complex Extended Producer Responsibility requirements. Another key advantage is take-e-way’s Europe-wide EPR portal, which enables companies to manage various country-specific obligations centrally.

take-e-way takes over unresolved registrations

Companies that need to establish a new packaging registration in France or optimise their existing compliance processes can currently benefit from a special PPWR promotion. As part of this campaign, packaging registration services are available at a discount of up to 60 per cent for new contracts signed by August 12, 2026.

For retailers and producers affected by the potential discontinuation of Amazon’s service, or those seeking a long-term, reliable solution for their EPR obligations in France, this is an opportunity to transition to a specialised and future-orientated compliance partner.

The take-e-way consulting team is available to answer questions about this special offer as well as packaging registration across Europe!
