The Spanish packaging law obliges producers to register their packaging. Distributors from abroad must also register through an authorised representative if they sell packaged products in Spain.

EU Battery Regulation coming in 2023?

The agreed rules and regulations will cover the entire life cycle of batteries, from design to end of life, and will apply to all types of batteries sold in the EU: conventional portable batteries, batteries for light transport vehicles (powering wheeled vehicles such as electric scooters and bicycles), automotive batteries (providing power for vehicle starting, lighting or ignition), traction batteries for powering electric road vehicles and industrial batteries (energy storage in private or domestic environments, for propulsion in rail or air transport and shipping). Negotiators agreed on stricter requirements to make batteries more sustainable, powerful and durable.

Proposal for EU Packaging Regulation published

To encourage reuse or refilling of packaging, companies must offer consumers a certain percentage of their products in reusable or refillable packaging, e.g. eCommerce deliveries. Moreover, some packaging formats are standardised, and clear labelling of reusable packaging is prescribed. To decisively address unnecessary packaging, certain packaging is prohibited.

ElektroG quarterly fee in the Federal Law Gazette

The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act Battery Act Fee Ordinance (ElektroGBattGGebV) was published in the Federal Law Gazette on 8 December 2022. This includes the new quarterly fee, as was to be expected. The association VERE e.V. will continue to campaign for a fair fee structure in the area of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act / Batteries Act.

Single-use plastic levy up to 8.95 euros per kilogram

Based on a study, the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) proposes to introduce separate cost rates for each plastic product group: For disposable plastic cups, a levy of 1.23 euros/kg would make sense; for plastic-containing filters of cigarettes, producers would have to pay as much as 8.95 euros/kg into the disposable plastic fund, according to UBA.
