As reported by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council agreed on the “One Substance, One Assessment” (OSOA) legislative package on 13 June 2025 in order to make the assessment of chemicals in Europe more efficient and transparent. In future, chemical substances such as those in toys, food and pesticides are to be assessed in a standardised manner. A centralised open data platform will be created on which relevant study data will be collected and made accessible. In addition, tasks will be bundled more closely with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), which will take on more responsibility for scientific and technical assessments in future. The aim is to recognise risks earlier, reduce the burden on authorities and improve the protection of people and the environment.
