For almost one year, registration has been obligatory for packaging producers in Denmark. The first quantity report for packaging placed on the Danish market will be due in November 2025. The advanced recycling fees to be paid are subject to an eco-modulation model.
Depending on the recyclability of the packaging materials, the Danish authorities have introduced a price scale for the advanced recycling fees, based on a traffic light system in green and yellow (very good or limited recyclability) or red (low recyclability).
While the fees for the yellow and green categories cover the general costs, the red category effectively involves a 35 % surcharge compared to the materials categorised as green and yellow.
Companies who are unable to provide appropriate evidence will be charged the maximum rate for the red category.
For hazardous household waste, there is a general price regardless of the material, as the local authorities charge a fixed fee for the disposal of hazardous waste. A flat rate is charged for all materials, differentiating only between the red and green/yellow levels.
For hazardous commercial waste, there is an administration fee and no recycling fee.
Up to a threshold value of 8 tons of packaging placed on the market per year, you can report to the Danish authorities without differentiating between materials. However, this may be subject to higher fees.
