On 21 May 2021, trade-e-bility reported that products made of bamboo are not suitable for contact with food. The backdrop to this was a corresponding communication from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
On 28 July 2021, the German consumer advice centre (Verbraucherzentrale) likewise reported on harmful substances in plastic tableware with bamboo admixture and recommended caution.
Manufacturers and importers of food contact products should take care to comply with the statutory regulations.
