On 2 May 2025, the EAR Foundation (German WEEE and battery registration board) published assessment factors for the safety deposit in accordance with the EU Batteries Regulation (EU-BattVO). In addition to information on the security deposit, calculation formulas and explanations, calculation examples and assessment factors, the document also contains an indication of the amount of the security deposit per tonne of batteries (in euros) depending on the battery type, chemical composition, disposal costs and return rate. It should be noted that the security deposit to be provided under the continued validity of the BattG until 31 December 2025 is limited exclusively to hedging the registration risk. When a Battery Implementation Act comes into force, the risk to be covered and thus the amount of the security deposit may change – even upwards.
It can be assumed that the authorised take-back systems will pass on the costs for the security deposit to the system participants.
