UN38 and shipment of lithium batteries: A summary of test results is mandatory for the transport permit

According to the new version of UN38, since 1 January 2020 the summary of test results has been mandatory to obtain a transport permit. The company trade-e-bility GmbH can assist you in preparing the summary of the test results.

UN38 is an international standard that governs the transportation of batteries as hazardous goods.

The precautions described above comprise transport by air, land (road and rail) and sea.

Since the new version of UN38 was released on 1 January 2020, the summary of test results has been mandatory for the transport permit. This summary includes e.g. information on mass, lithium content or the model number of the battery.

In Germany, this standard is referred to e.g. in Section 3 of the [German] Hazardous Goods Ordinance (GGVSEB) (indirectly) and is therefore also required by statute law.

The test scope for this standard comprises all properties of a battery of relevance to transport, e.g. a test for battery leakage, thermal stability, crushing, etc.

These tests are important in the sense that accidents during transport can be avoided and thus no persons can be injured.

Trade-e-bility GmbH can assist you in preparing the summary of the test results. The basis for this is a corresponding audit, which we can also commission on your behalf.
