New registration obligation for packaging in Spain

The Spanish packaging law obliges producers to register their packaging. Distributors from abroad must also register through an authorised representative if they sell packaged products in Spain.

Draft Electronic Equipment Act available

The option of returning an old appliance without having to buy a new one at the same time is to be extended to all appliances with an edge length of up to 50 centimetres (previously 25 centimetres). Protection against fire risks from incorrectly disposed or damaged batteries is to be improved.

On 2 May 2020, the Federal Ministry for the Environment published the draft bill for a third law to amend the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act. take-e-way has already provided an ElektroG4 update in advance with some of the expected content of the amendment. Here you will find an extract of important aspects of the draft law:

  • Consumers should return old appliances to retailers more often in future.
  • To this end, information in the retail sector is to be improved and
  • the return options are to be expanded.
  • The obligation to take back disposable e-cigarettes is to be extended to all points of sale.

  • Collection points in shops should be uniformly labelled.
  • The option of returning an old appliance without having to buy a new one at the same time is to be extended to all appliances with an edge length of up to 50 centimetres (previously 25 centimetres).
  • When collecting waste electrical and electronic equipment at the recycling centre, it should only be sorted into the collection containers by trained staff at the recycling centre.
