Packaging reporting required in Denmark

From 1 July 2025, the extended producer responsibility for producers of packaging will apply in Denmark. However, reporting of the quantities placed on the market is already required for 2024.

Although no advanced disposal fees have to be paid for the quantities reported in 2024, it is not sufficient to report only planned quantities. The quantities to be reported are the packaging put on the Danish market, although the regulation will not come into force until summer.

Are you in doubt whether you need to register?

Please note: Companies that are the first to import packaging or packaged products into Denmark and make them available for sale on the Danish market (e.g. importers, distributors) bear producer responsibility. This obligation cannot be transferred to other companies.

A foreign producer is subject to producer responsibility in Denmark if, for example, they sell packaged goods to a Danish end consumer via a webshop.

If a Danish company disposes of transport packaging received from a foreign company, the Danish company becomes the final consumer of the packaging, which again means that the foreign company is subject to producer responsibility.

In addition, all packaging materials, regardless of whether they are disposed of in households or businesses, fall within the scope of application. Additionally, from 2025, the reporting has to take into account whether the materials are reusable.
